Ranchi: The Centre has released Rs 770 crore grants under the Integrated Action Plan (IAP) for raising infrastructure in 14 Naxal-hit districts of Jharkhand.

This is the third installment of money allocated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to build infrastructure like roads, culverts and creation of irrigation and potable water facilities in rural areas.

Additional allotments will be made for Ranchi, Khunti and Giridih districts, which were brought under the IAP ambit the other day. With latest inclusion, 17 out of 24 districts will be getting additional grants from the Centre for raising infrastructure in the Maoist-hit areas.

For the rest of the district, Union Home Minister P Childambaram has assured to release additional fund under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE). SRE fund is generally spent for creating job opportunities for the people living in remote areas.

Soon after taking stock of the recent anti-Naxal drive and status of development initiatives undertaken by the State government at a high-level meeting here, Chidambaram said each of the Naxal-violence affected districts would be getting Rs 55 crore for development activities under the IAP.

Principally agreeing to the State government’s demand, Chidambaram also assured to provide seven more battalions of the Central para-military force (CPMF).Officials present in the meeting said five more battalions of the CRPF and two of the Cobra would be joining the State police to intensify operation against the Naxals.

Indian Air Force (IAF)’s MI-17 helicopter has also arrived in Jharkhand to support the police personnel during the anti-Naxal operations. The other two MI-17 choppers would be reaching the State very soon.

This apart, the Centre also okayed Rs 100 crore central assistance to the State for providing necessary infrastructure and training facility for Jharkhand Jaguar, a specialised police force raised by the State to take on the leftwing extremists.“The grant would come in equated annual installments for five years,” Jharkhand Home Secretary JB Tubid said.
