Fact Sheet: T-Ministers' resignation drama!

As many as 11 Telangana ministers on Friday resigned from the Rosaiah Cabinet on the separate Telangana issue, but in the most dramatic fashion.

All the ministers signed on a common single page letter and faxed the same to AICC President Sonia Gandhi stating that they have decided to resign from the government on the statehood issue. The ministers met Chief Minister K Rosaiah at the Secretariat and informed him about the decision. Only Komatireddy Venkat Reddy submitted his resignation directly to Rosaiah.

Later, P Lakshmaiah, Sabita Reddy, D Sridhar Babu and other ministers said they have appealed to the Centre to announce a clear cut time frame for formation of a separate Telangan state. They said Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's statement on December 23 putting the Telangana issue on the backburner was "confusing".

They also said they would seek an appointment to meet Gandhi soon. One wonders what they would achieve by faxing their resignation letters to the party president, rather than the Chief Minister, since they are resigning from the cabinet and not from the party. Otherwise, they should submit their letters to the Governor, as Konda Surekha did.

Moreover, faxing the resignation letter does not serve any purpose, because 99.9999 per cent of fax messages at the AICC office would not go to the notice of Sonia Gandhi. They would either reach the files or dustbin. So, is it not a drama?
