rajeev Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 The Telangana state, once formed, separated from Andhra Pradesh, will have to grapple with the problem of power supply as it is precariously placed on the power front. The region has few power projects to generate power and massive agricultural connections.Telangana earns Rs. 7,155 crore from sale of power with Hyderabad city’s share being Rs. 3,529 crore. The remaining nine districts earn Rs. 3,586 crore making the entire region fully depended on Hyderabd’s revenues to run power supply smoothly.“Out of the total 29 lakh pumpsets in the state, Telangana region alone has 20 lakh sets. It would be difficult to manage the subsidy and cross-subsidy on pumpsets after bifurcation,” pointed out a senior official in the APTransco. In fact, domestic and industrial consumers in the state are paying for the agriculture consumers who are getting power free of cost. With the creation of Telangana state the number of consumers would come down to 80 lakhs from nearly 2 crores all over the state. At present the state government is paying Rs 2,138 crore as farm subsidy of which nearly 75 per cent is going to the Telangana region.
