The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and Cyberabad Police are yet to install the proposed security measures, paving the way for many an accident on the eight-lane access-controlled expressway.[/font][/color]

[color=#000000][font=verdana, geneva, lucida,]While lack of signboards and central lighting system contribute to accidents, especially at nights there is no quick medical relief available on the stretch resulting in the death of victims even before they reach a hospital. On the night of July 4, three people died on the Pothireddypally ORR stretch when their Maruthi Swift rammed into a speeding lorry. At least 12 people died in road mishaps this year on ORR as per the records of Cyberabad Police not to mention the scores who have suffered injuries. Rajendranagar Traffic Inspector of Police K. Venkat Reddy says, “Most of the accidents on ORR are occurring at night as there is no central lighting. Due to confusion in the dark, ORR users are taking the wrong route and come into collision with oncoming vehicles. No traffic cops are posted there. At that speed, the vehicles can also knock the traffic cops down. Speed limit boards have to be set up. Once the ORR is completed and structures are finished and toll gates set up with the help of the authorities concerned, we can implement the rules.”[/font][/color]

[color=#000000][font=verdana, geneva, lucida,]With no interceptors or radar guns on the unmanned ORR, some vehicle users have been zooming at 150 km per hour though it is designed only for a maximum of 120 kmph. Reddy said that most accidents are taking place in the stretch between Shamshabad and Tukkugudam which was completed only two months ago. Drivers are also only getting used to the stretch between Shamshabad and Gachibowli. Often, the vehicles used by the contractors are parked on the ORR lanes indiscriminately and speeding cars ram into it. [/font][/color]

[color=#000000][font=verdana, geneva, lucida,]Many of the junctions are without signboards causing confusion. Authorities plan to install 38 vehicle detector sets, 41 CCTV camera sets, 330 emergency call boxes and speed guns but these are yet to be fixed. The road will also have 19 interchanges at various places, with a traffic control station to be set up at Nanakramguda intersection.[/font][/color]

[color=#000000][font=verdana, geneva, lucida,]Police officials say that regular traffic control on other parts of Cyberabad keeps them busy and leave them with no chance to spare men on ORR that is still under construction. Cyberabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. Chandrasekhar Reddy says, “They have allowed traffic without completing ORR. Most people exceed the speed limit of 120 kmph for which it has been designed. And, most don’t know the rules on ORR. One option is to close access to ORR till the work is completed. But then there will be an uproar. Traffic regulation on this 60 km stretch is no easy job.” He added that in future there will be an exclusive traffic police station for ORR. “The ORR will have separate exit and entry points. People who don’t know these are entering and leaving at the wrong places. This often lead to deadly collisions,” says Reddy. Ironically, two-wheelers and three-wheelers are banned on the road but they can still be seen plying. [/font][/color]
