master123 Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 [center][b][color=red]High Court warns Media channels on provocative speeches![/color][/b][/center]The Andhra Pradesh High Court has warned the media channels in the state to refrain from airing provocative speeches and visuals which spread panic among people. The high court was acting on a motion introduced by an advocate Kameshwara Rao who had earlier filed petition to impose restrictions on news channels from airing provocative speeches. The court also pointed out that apart from creating a sensation and increasing their viewership, the news channels aren’t telecasting worthwhile. It issued an order that such programmes should not be aired for more than six weeks. It also noted the fact that most of these programmes and public debates which eventually incite people aren’t scrutinized properly before they go on air. The court concluded that the news channels are crossing limits in terms of their style of reporting. This warning assumes importance especially after such provocative news reports and visuals led to mass protests and incidents of violence across the state over the last one month or so.
