Playing fantasy cricket at livefantasycricket.com will make watching your favourite cricket stars in action even more enjoyable. It will also give you the chance to show your friends and the rest of the cricket world just how much you know about cricket.
To play livefantasycricket.com successfully, you need to carefully select a team of 11 players, and then monitor and skilfully adjust your team throughout the season using your 32 permitted changes. Details of how to play are given below. We advise that you read this carefully, as well as taking a look at the expert advice in our Experts’ Corner, before you go ahead and select your team!

Selecting a Team

To select your team, go to the My Team page. On this page, you will see a list of players and a cricket pitch. When you pick a player for your team, he will appear on the cricket pitch. So by the time you have finished picking your team, you will see your 11 chosen players in front of you on the cricket pitch.
You need to select 11 players and have a total budget of $10 million to spend. You can spend less than or equal to this amount but cannot spend more than $10 million. (Think of it as you managing your very own franchise and having to pick your team at auction… you have to respect the salary cap!)
There is a list of players to the right of the “My Team” page. When you want to select a player, click on the “Add this Player” button to the side of the player. Alternatively, you can hover over the player to see brief information about that player, or click on a player’s name to be taken to the player’s page, where there is more detailed information about that player. If you want to find out more about the players, go to the Player Stats page, which is a treasure trove of statistics and facts about players, or go to our Experts’ Corner to see which players our experts recommend.
You can choose any one of the following three formations for your team:
4-4-2This means selecting 4 batsmen, 4 bowlers, 2 all-rounders and 1 wicket-keeper.
4-5-1This means selecting 4 batsmen, 5 bowlers, 1 all-rounder and 1 wicket-keeper.
5-4-1This means selecting 5 batsmen, 4 bowlers, 1 all-rounder and 1 wicket-keeper.
You are only allowed to select 4 players from any one franchise.
You must select a captain for your team: the captain will score double points for the team, whether positive or negative, so we advise you to choose your captain very carefully.
If you are out of time or prefer to trust Lady Luck to pick a team for you, click on the Auto-select option on the My Team page and we will select a team at random for you. Please don’t blame us if you aren’t happy with the picks, though!
After making your initial selection, don’t worry, you will be able to make as many changes to your team as you like before the game freezes at 19.45 IST on 4 April 2012, 15 minutes before the start of the first match of the competition. Any changes made before this time will not count as part of your 32 designated changes that you are allowed during the season: these only come into play after the competition starts on 4 April 2012. From that point, any subsequent changes you make to the team will come from your allocation of just 32 changes for the season. (See the Making Changes section below for more information on this.)
Before selecting your team, we recommend that you have a look in our Experts’ Corner to see what our experts think about tactics for picking a team and how individual teams and players will fare. To help with picking your team, we have asked our experts to rank each player on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, with 5 stars being players our experts think will excel and 1 star being players they think will struggle. So we encourage you to take that into consideration, though of course our experts will not always be right, and you are very welcome to disagree with them!
Consider yourself both a franchise owner and team manager when it comes to selecting your team: you have a budget that you must stick to, so you are limited in the way that a franchise manager is limited by the salary cap at a cricket auction. And you must select the 11 players who will score you the most points, so need to find the perfect blend of players for a successful team. This is your chance to show you know more than the franchise owners, team managers and other cricketing experts (and to win great prizes in doing so)!

Making Changes

You are able to make just 32 changes over the course of the whole competition, which includes the play-off matches and comprises 76 matches in total.
You are free to make as many changes to your team as you like before the game freezes at 19.45 IST on 4 April 2012, 15 minutes before the start of the first match of the competition. Any changes made before this time will not count as any of your 32 designated changes that you are allowed during the season: these only come into play after the competition starts on 4 April 2012. From that point, any subsequent changes you make to the team will come from your allocation of 32 changes for the season.
A change is made when you transfer out one player and replace them with another player. When you do this, you are able to change your formation to accommodate the new player, but you must remain within one of the 3 permitted formations. You must also ensure that you still have 11 players, with no more than 4 from each franchise, and that the value of your team is still less than or equal to $10 million.
You are also able to change the captain of your team, but this will count as one of your 32 designated changes.
If you remove your captain from your team, this will cost you 2 changes: one to replace him with a new player, and another to appoint a new captain. This is even more reason to choose your captain very carefully.
When you make a change, the player leaving your team will leave the team and will no longer score points for your team (but you will keep the points that he previously scored when on your team). The player joining your team will score points from the moment he joins your team (but you will not get the benefit of points he scored before joining your team).
Changes can be made up to 15 minutes before the start of a match, but we don’t recommend you leave it too late. Changes cannot be made whilst a match is in progress, and the match is considered to be in progress until the ability to make changes reopens (which will occur about 15 minutes after the end of the match).
Paying close attention to injuries and form and making your changes carefully will be critical in making your team successful. We would encourage you to refer to our Experts’ Corner which has specific advice on how to use your changes wisely during the season.

Scoring Points

At livefantasycricket.com, we use a unique live ball-by-ball fantasy scoring system, which means that every ball really does matter. Points are scored as follow for your team:

WHEN BATTING

1 point for each run;
2 point bonus for a boundary (so each boundary scores 6 points in total);
4 point bonus for a 6 (so each 6 scores 10 points in total);
10 point bonus for а 50, and a further 10 points bonus for a 100 (so the total bonus for a century will be 20 points);
-1 point for each dot ball faced (which includes byes or leg byes, but not wides or no balls);
-10 points for being dismissed.

WHEN BOWLING

20 points for each wicket taken;
10 point bonus for taking 3 wickets in an innings, and a further 10 points for taking 5 wickets in an innings;
3 points for each dot ball (which includes byes and leg byes);
6 point bonus for bowling a maiden (so 24 points in total for a maiden);
-1 point per run conceded (including wides and no balls);

WHEN KEEPING WICKET OR FIELDING

10 points for a catch;
10 points for a positive involvement in a run-out (which can include more than one person);
-1 point per conceded;
20 points per stumping;
Please remember that your captain will score double points for the team, whether positive or negative, so choose your captain very carefully.
You can see from our scoring system that every ball really matters, and you can follow your players and watch the scores update after each ball in the Live Area of the website. It you want, you can even check how each ball changes your standings in the overall Leaderboard or in your private League.
