k2s Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 Hello I really really need your help and advice on this issue with my father....It is going to be a loooong post. We are a family of Dad, 2 sisters & 1 brother. My mom passed away a few years ago, suddenly at a young age leaving us all completely shocked. We were a happy family, slightly strict father, very very caring & loving mom, everyone well educated, but my parents were more on conservative side. My dad is in private job at 60yrs, he has a full time job that he is very successful at. He has lived in the same place for 25 years, does a lot of social & charity work, is well known to a lot of people. He values his "name" and social standing a lot. About 2 years ago my brother (who lives with dad with his family), told me that he has seen dad a couple times while he was dropping off a woman to a place near our house. Or just simply sitting and talking with her in the car, with the windows rolled up. Dad started coming home late, giving excuses like he is at work or friends place etc. When I lived 22yrs at home, dad was a 9-5 guy. Practically NEVER late home. When my brother saw this happening all the time, he confronted dad about this woman, Dad said it is just some poor lady, he is helping her out. Obviously not a very credible answer,My brother basically told dad that there is surely no need to see her so often to help her and he is willing to spend whatever it takes to help this woman out of dads life. My brother is very upset as to how someone who is so mindful of their image can do something like this. A lot of people know him, if my brother found out about him by coincidence, maybe a lot of other people know about this too. What are the intentions of this woman ? what does she want?. So dad stopped seeing her for a few months & everything was fine. Unfortunately it started again and brother confronted him again. This time it blew up into a whole big fight and my dad refuses to accept he is doing anything wrong. Now my brother is extremely angry and is thinking about giving an "ultimatum" -Its either "her" or "me". I dont know how to handle this situation. I dont even know how I feel about this situation. I saw my father completely shattered after mom & understand his need to have a companion at this age. But I absolutely do not like this clandestine affair. Also the woman is much younger too. My brother thinks it is complete bull****, he hates dad for it, losing all respect and is very very stressed out because of all this. He is hoping I can help him find a solution to this. I dont know what to tell him. I dont like the idea of him separating from dad with such bitterness and I do understand that dad needs to come clean on this too. Please pour in your thoughts as to how to handle this situation? How can we clearly talk to dad and make him understand what he is doing is not correct. Please help. My dad doesnt know I am aware of all this and I intend to stay in background, dont want to increase the rift between him & brother. We havent told our sister about this at all.
