Deceased Marxist icon Jyoti Basu's eyes have been grafted to give vision to two blind people, an opthalmologist said here Thursday.

The eyes were grafted following routine clinical procedure, said the doctor of city-based Susrut Eye Foundation and Research Centre where the 95-year-old leader's eyes were donated.

"His eyes were good. That means those were used," centre secretary R.C Pal told reporter.

Asked about the speculations on using the eyes, Pal said: "Who told you that his eyes were not used?"

He said as per medical norms, the doctors cannot share reveal the identity of the recipients.

"We keep it a top secret," he added.
