Bairagi Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 Vedas contain the evolution of hindu philosophical thought which ranges from worshipping dead spirits to the highest advaitic concept. But only ideas were laid in vedas. Upanishads are elaborations of these ideas in Vedas. They occur at the end of vedas, so the philosophy in them is termed Vedantha. Ramayana and Mahabharatha are Ithihasas - some call them mythology. They were made to make common people understand the philosophy of veda/vedantha.
