I know how to get one in US or offshore
As far as I know it is betterif you can go with a offshore merchant account as they are very easy and less risk and you can avoid taxes and RBI rules and exchange/conversion fee
But you if your business is mostly from Inda(in rupees) the easiest option is ccavenue.com .Even banks like icici and hdfc will offer you merchant accounts,but most of the branches deal with offline stores and will direct you to call center for online merchant accounts.You need to pay for payment gateway seprately
Consider theat Indian merchant accounts have a longer hold back ,higher transaction fee,monthly fee and they retain some percentage for chargebacks
if yours is new business and have very few transaction,i suggest you to try 2checkout.com .It is free,no monthly fee .They collect1 to 3 % on every transaction.It is easy to inegrate with ost ecommerce software/shopping carts
