Help!

Hi
My friend came to US on sep 2008 for PHD in chemistry but after 4 years in jan 2012 he transferred to masters in computers and currenlty he is doing this with out completion of his phd.

Now his student visa will expire in sep 27th 2012.But in spring 2013 he want to go to india and come back.

when he go for stamping in spring 2013is there any risk for getting student visa renewed??as he will not have any degree yet did they give student visa?? ...[color=#ff0000](also please let me know is there any chance for him to go to canada in 2013 spring and take student visa with out any risk??)[/color]

Please help him out!!!!!!!!

PhD start: Jan 2008
Masters in CS Begin: Jan 2012
F1 status: Transferred to Masters in computers from phd in chemistry after 4years.(with out completion his phd)
