Ysrcp To Get 27 Parliament Seats: Survey

New Delhi, August 17: The YSR Congress has emerged as a strong force and would have greater say in the national politics, despite the party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy languishing in the Chanchalguda jail on corruption charges.

This is the finding of a survey by India Today and Nielsen. The UPA (Congress) got 33 Lok Sabha seats in the 2009 elections in Andhra Pradesh. NDA (BJP) has not got even a single seat. Others (TDP and TRS) got 9 seats. However, the latest survey says that the UPA (Congress) would just get 3 to 8 seats and NDA would not be able to win even a single seat. The survey says YSR Congress would get 23 to 27 seats and rest of the parties including TDP and TRS would get about 12 seats.

The survey showed that people were very much discontented with the performance of the UPA – 2 government, because of price rise, unemployment, corruption, deterioration of law and order and economic slow down.

The survey was conducted in 125 Parliament constituencies in 19 states from July 6 to July 20. Information was elicited from 15,827 eligible voters.

The survey said if elections were immediately held, UPA might get between 171 to 181 seats (against 259 in 2009) while the NDA might get 195 to 205 seats (against 159 in 2009). With 23 to 27 seats, YSR Congress would turn out to be a major deciding factor in the forming of a coalition government at the center.

The voters also named Gujarat’s Narendra Modi as the best Chief Minister while Bihar’s Nitish Kumar was voted second best Chief Minister. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has come in the eighth place of the ten named. Young Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of UP came in the third place, while Shila Dixit (Delhi) occupied the fourth spot. Jayalalita (Tamil Nadu), Pruthiviraj Chauhan (Maharashtra), Mamata Benerjee (West Bengal), Kiran Kumar Reddy (AP), Sadananda Goud/Jagadish Shettar (Karnataka) and Shivaraj Singh Chauhan (MP) occupied the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th spots.

When the voters were questioned if Narndra Modi would be a Prime Ministerial candidate if BJP wins in Gujarat Assembly elections, 55 percent said yes and 25 percent said no. To the question on who would be the best Prime Minister 21 percent voted for Narendra Modi while only 10 percent voted for Rahul Gandhi. Advani got 8 percent while Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi got 6 percent votes each. While Mulayam Singh and Mayavati got 4 percent votes each, Jayalalita and Mamata Benerjee got 2 percent votes each. 26 percent of voters said that if NDA comes to power, Nitish Kumar would be a non-BJP Prime Ministerial candidate.

Congress MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy has said that they all knew that YSR Congress has emerged as a strong force in the Seemandhra region. With the Congress leadership dilly-dallying on the Telangana issue, chances of the Congress are bleak in the Telangana region also he said. He said Congress might get 10 to 12 seats in the entire state. While the YSR Congress would sweep the Seemandhra region, the TRS and its allies would sweep Telangana, he said. He has also expressed the view this situation could change considerably in the 'T' region if the Congress leadership takes an early decision on the Telangana issue.
