This computer-generated perspective view shows a crater in the Melas Dorsa region of Mars. The picture was created from data acquired by the European Space Agency's Mars Express orbiter, and released by the ESA on July 5. This image from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, released July 18, shows a crater wall in the Red Planet's southern hemisphere with gully landforms. In the Martian winter, frost - mostly carbon dioxide - can build up in the gullies, especially on the cold slopes that face the pole.
