If u were to refer your zoning type using identity type, in ur environment what identity type is used ? Quote

girishv Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012
I am bit confused now, you have outlined merits over demerits brilliantly however I am bit confused with definition of hardware zoning and software zoning My understanding of hardware enforced zoning is it is of 2 types frame based h/w enforced session based h/w enforced Software enforced zoning: long gone. Brocade is not anymore using port masking using name server service on software level. I believe due to data security reasons soft zoning was completely binned. Now they only do Hardware enforced zoning: H/w enforced uses filtering at port level by ASIC's, filtering filters based on zone config...if communications initiated by hosts that are not in zoning config then port filtering will reject it at hardware level. Frame based zoning is zoning done using identity pWWn zoning performed using identity (d,p) Zone performed using either pWWN identity or (d,p) but not mixed. Session based: all mix fruit juice identity overlapping Think ,the differences which u quoted above are for identity types, correct me if I am wrong. so basically I understand all zoning is hardware enforced in the current times
nenu cheppina daniki neeku exact opposite way lo ardham ayindi...now-a-days no more hard zoning...only soft zoning use chesthunnaru.....server oka HBA ni storage lo oka FA port ki istham....then inko HBA ni inko storage FA port ki istham...ila 2 different paths use chesedi redundancy kosam and to make sure that THERE IS NO SINGLE POINT OF FAILURE......this is zoning....intha kanna ekkuva alochinchaku....hands on experience vasthe adhe ardham avuthundi.... post number 158 lo example undi kada...anthe zoning ante....
Right ok, Just one clarification miru hard zoning /soft zoning ante deni refer chestunnaru ? .. Official line from Brocade contradicts exactly what you say I am afraid. Is below what you mean by hard /soft zoning ? Soft Zone (identity type pWWn) : Zonecreate "Red_zone1", "pWWn;pWWn" Hard Zone (identity type (D,P): Zonecreate "Red_Zone1", "d,p;d,p" Then I am afraid to say you are using wrong terminology , just read zoning documentation from Brocade site and what I said stands true. So therefore there is no official soft enforced Zoning , it's all implemented now on hardware level hardware enforcement type Could you kindly clarify by referring to documentation Quote

Reply: Research to see if system is being used or has been renamed b. No reply: Continue with next steps 2) On Fabric Manager, search for the WWN 3) On Fabric Manager, search for Enclosure name 4) On SMC, search for host under host alias (highlight Host Alias) a. You will need to be sure and sort by Name then scroll to locate host. 5) Look for initiators under host alias and check whether they are “Logged In” or not. a. Yes: Stop this process and investigate b. No: Continue with next steps. 6) Once we’ve validated to move ahead with reclaiming (either from UNIX/NT Admins, please move on to the next step. 7) Unmask both paths 8) Unmap (note: Data will be lost!) 9) Remove Host Alias 10) Goto Device Groups > right click on host > DG/CG Management > Delete Group Clean-up on the Cisco side We will complete these steps only after we reclaim space on the storage side. 1. On Cisco Fabric Manager, Edit Local Full Zone Database and remove Zone information 2. Distribute and Activate the Zone changes 3. On each Cisco Device Manager, disable the port, clear out the information in the description and clear out the VSAN settings.
