Many of the top US and european solar power panel companies have gone bankrupt because of the heavy competition from Chinese manufacturers .In India too most of the panels are imported from china .Chinese panels cost a fraction of what is manufactured in India
It is very risky to start a solar panels factory. You can talk directly to manufacturers and consultants in the industry to get feedback before starting

first awareness unna solar panels endhuku le anna thought vastundhi and on top of that above posters have rightly pointed out you product should be cheap, reliable....good thought.

thanxs for the info, above 2 pts batee, its better import panels n start private power generation plant or installation company instead of manufacturing the panels itself.

Have you heard about the Indian government's ' Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission ' which was launched in 2010.The phase 1 has already been completed. In this scheme the govt will purchase power for next 20 years at rate of approx Rs 15 per unit (again there is a bidding process involved here) and even import duty and excise duty waivers on the equipment. It is extremely difficult for a small players to get into it has you need to have good contact in central government for approvals .BTW the policy is aimed at encouraging small and medium plants(less than 5 MW only). But some companies like Lagadapati's Lanco got a approvals under 40 different companies and set up mega power plant with the loop holes in govt policy

However you can also set up solar power plant independently by making power purchase agreement with gencos. But you will not get benifits or higher purchase price .It will not viable as the capital required per MW is double than that of hydro or thermal power plant

for more info on Solar power policy visit this link http://indianpowersector.com/electricity-regulation/national-solar-mission/
