After announcing his entry to active politics, Nandamuri Balakrishna had got his first move right in the Telugu Desam Party. He took the responsibility to restoring the glory of party in Gudivada constituency after the sitting MLA, Kodali Nani in the region switched his loyalties to YSR Congress party.

In 2009, on the recommendation of Junior NTR, TDP had refused party ticket to Ravi Venkateswar Rao whose family had a strong hold in the region and gave the ticket to Nani. Ravi then contested from PRP party and lost. Ravi from then decided to stay away from politics due to his bad health and financial condition. Balayya took the responsibility of convincing him and instilled faith in him that party will take care of the finance. Finally, Ravi joined the party yesterday and was immediately announced as the TDP candidate from Gudivada in 2014.
