just2deal Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 Withdraw all the money from your bank account and convert to travelers checks. Then hand over your debit card to the bank and request them to close the account. Most banks will close with out any closing fee unless you have used any promos/rewards to open the account Also if the amount is huge above $10k ,try to get a letter from bank that the fund originated from your checking account Carry a bank account statement for at least 6 months to support your funds You can also, contact citibank or hsbc, they can open a bank account in any country in Europe from USA. You can transfer your funds to your european bank account by depositing check or wire transfer I have opened HSBC premier account in UK and Llyods TSB account in Isle of Man from US without any problem But ,if you file US taxes don't forget to inform IRS about your Non-US bank accounts (if you hold deposts of more than $10k)
