Here is the process

Get the requirements documents and analyse what what parts of the application need to be tested .

Requirement- 1 Some of the requirements may say _ when customer enters zip code the city and the state should be auto populated

test case 1 : Enter any valid zip code and see if the application is populating city and state.

Day to day activities anta : get the requirements document and prepare test cases .
If you get a QA deployment for the particular Requirements execute the scripts In QA and test according to the test cases you wrote earlier ,. If you don't see any functionality that is mentioned in the requirements you raise a defect to the development team , this functionality is full filled etc.
