The government recently came out with an advertisement on local television channels alleging that the centre was being discriminatory over gas supply and its rates. It was followed up with a similar advertisement on kerosene supply. Modi has been crying foul over the meagre central allocation to the state from the Centre.

Modi needs to find that big talking point which could serve as the holding theme of his campaign. It helps his case if he puts himself in a situation of comparison with the very top in the Congress and brings in a contrast of statures.
