I don't think he was too harsh or cruel. But, putting this email on Facebook could be treated as 'bullying'. Secondly, women are so sensitive that even the suggestions on their appearance will actually hurt them a lot...whereas school girls will be a lot more sensitive. So, people should be very careful with these kinda stuff.
