[background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]Rudra was the first god in Rig veda...he was originally the god of fire - fire destroys, a character of shiva in our puranas. So rudra became synonymous with shiva. Rudra was the trie adi deva. They found rudra statue in mohanjadaro that dates back to 3500BC, the oldest of its kind. Vishnu on the other hand came in to picture only later - and most of the vedas describe vishnu as an aid or friend to Indra, not as supreme god. In fact vedas talk a lot about Indra than any other god.[/background]

EmWatson Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012
I agree that Mythology has many interpretations; but... A question on Amish Tripathi's book, the Immortals of Meluha. ( In his Shiva trilogy, he describes the Lord Shiva as a tribe leader from Tibet, who comes to Indian-land for 'a purpose' and becomes Mahadev (god of gods) with his karma. And also the author mentions that Lord Shiva has come to the Meluha (A city created by Lord Ram) to full fill Lord Ram's unfinished task. So rest of the story is what is Lord Ram's unfinished task? What is good - what is bad? Who are really cursed people and who are really victims? What consequences Shiva jhas faced during his journey? And finally, has Shiva, the Neelakanth had accomplished what he had came for? ) For sure, the immortals of meluha is a perfect blend of our ancient history and mythology. But, my question is... As we know, the Hindu triad, Lord Shiva (destroyer), Lord Vishnu (preserver), and Lord Brahma (creator) are responsible for the cosmic functions - whose birth/creation is unknown/unspecified. Lord Shiva, the Legend of Legends... God of Gods... Destroyer of evil.. who believed to be existed many 100,000 years earlier than Ram's time period. Our ancient scripts describes Ravana-Brahma as a great devotee of Lord Shiva. In addition, according to Valmiki Raamayana, Shiva, the Neelkanth was even worshiped by Lord Ram just before the construction of Ramasethu (Adams bridge). Thus, Lord Shiva was someone who definitely exited some 100000 years earlier to Ram. Then, how one can interpret Lord Shiva as someone who just came/arrived to fulfill Lord Ram's unfinished task? And so becomes Mahadev. It's not any Shiva's incarnation.. it is He -- Himself.. - who completed 2 parts of the book, what are your thoughts guys? - who haven't read the book, please go n read the book first.. P.S. I am just asking a question. Neither suspecting anything beyond the topic nor author's intentions. Amish is a great devotee of Shiva, who is immensely influenced by my Lord, and even named his son Neel, after Neelkanth. So, please do NOT rise/start any stupid controversial discos on Amish.
This is intriguing.. Legend goes that once Lord Shiva and his wife Sati or Shakti were returning from sage Agastya’s ashram after listening to Ram Katha or story of Ram. On their way through a forest, Shiva saw Lord Ramasearching for his wife Sita who had been kidnapped by Ravana, the King of Lanka. Lord Shiva bowed his head in reverence to Lord Rama. Sati was surprised by Lord Shiva’s behavior and inquired why he was paying obeisance to a mere mortal. Shiva informed Sati that Rama was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Sati, however, was not satisfied with the reply and Lord asked her to go and verify the truth for herself. Using her power to change forms, Sati took the form of Sita appeared before Rama. Lord Rama immediately recognized the true identity of the Goddess and asked, "Devi, why are you alone, where's Shiva?" At this, Sati realized the truth about Lord Ram. But, Sita was like a mother to Lord Shiva and since Sati took the form of Sita her status had changed. From that time, Shiva detached himself from her as a wife. Sati was sad with the change of attitude of Lord Shiva but she stayed on at Mount Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva. http://www.mahashivratri.org/marriage-of-shiva-and-shakti.html
