i'm a man, i'm not gay, but his "package" is like right there and even when you try not to look at it you're still looking at it, give that man his underwear back

granted, the whole "underwear-on-the-outside" thing never made much sense, yet the costume looks so wrong without it.

It actually makes perfect sense. The whole point of the "underwear on the outside" look was to break up the costume and give your eyes a "resting" point.
Aesthetically the red "underwear" did exactly what it was supposed to do....

Honestly, I think the "underpants" look was less inappropriate. This new look makes him look more like he stuffed a potato into his underpants.
