[b]New Delhi: [/b][color=#000000][font=Georgia,]Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu has apologised in Parliament following uproar over his comments on a woman MP from the Congress.[/font][/color]

[color=#000000][font=Georgia,]While Mr Naidu was delivering his speech in Rajya Sabha on the contentious issue of Foreign Direct Investment or FDI in multi-brand retail, Congress MP Prabha Thakur interjected. Mr Naidu immediately called her bewakoof (stupid) for disrupting his speech.[/font][/color]

[color=#000000][font=Georgia,]Ms Thakur, upset over the comments, broke down in tears. Outside Parliament, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad and senior Congress leader Renuka Chowdhary were seen comforting her.[/font][/color]

[color=#000000][font=Georgia,]Her party, the Congress lodged a protest wanting an apology by Mr Naidu. Lalu Prasad also joined that demand.[/font][/color]

[color=#000000][font=Georgia,]"I met Prabha Thakur in the lobby, and if she felt bad, I am ," Mr Naidu apologised in the House.[/font][/color]

[color=#000000][font=Georgia,]Ms Thakur is the president of the All India Mahila Congress. She is a renowned Hindi poetess and social worker too.[/font][/color]
