vlookup functionality is used for extracting a value from a range based on a key..

vlookup ki four input parameters pampali:

First one is the Lookup Value based on which you want to lookup in the range of data
Second one is the name of the range (which is a group of cells) in the excel sheet which contains the data being looked up
Third one is the column in the range being referenced whose value should be returned
Fourth one is a TRUE or FALSE which says whether to lookup the value mentioned in the First Parameter with exact match or approximate match

For example:

Name Class Section
Stud1 9 A
Stud2 10 B
Stud3 8 C

Paina data if it exists in Columns A, B and C.. You need to highlight all those cells and give it a name (Example: ClassRange).

If we want to lookup the class for Stud1, we write the following VLOOKUP

=VLOOKUP("Stud1", "ClassRange", 2, FALSE)

col1 col2
1 2
2 1
2 2

ila unaaya anko...
vlookup will check for values in col1 if present in entire col2 and vice versa and gives out a value at cell locations.
