[b]Hyderabad: [/b]Former minister and Congress MLA D. Venkateswara Rao on Monday lashed out at TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu for accusing his wife, Union minister of state D. Purandeswari of being responsible for creating a controversy over the installation of TD founder N.T. Rama Rao’s statue in Parliament House.[/size][/font][/color][color=#000000][font=Lato, sans-serif][size=3]
Rao lambasted Naidu for his open letter to NTR fans and sympathisers on Sunday. “Naidu has always claimed he was responsible for making two PMs and President and shunned the PM’s post offered to him during his term as convener of the United Front. He has claimed he was the key man during the six years of NDA rule under Vajpayee, what then prevented him from installing NTR’s statue and awarding the Bharat Ratna to him?” Rao asked.[/size][/font][/color][color=#000000][font=Lato, sans-serif][size=3]
He said it was former BJP minister M. Venkaiah Naidu who was responsible for naming Begumpet International Airport after NTR and Naidu could stake no claim on it.
He ridiculed Naidu’s comments that Ms Purandeswari joined the Congress for the sake of power and post.[/size][/font][/color][color=#000000][font=Lato, sans-serif][size=3]
“How can he say that? If that is so why did he join the TD from Congress, was it for power? Why did he issue statements that he would contest against NTR in the 1983 Assembly polls and changed parties immediately after?” Rao demanded to know.[/size][/font][/color][color=#000000][font=Lato, sans-serif][size=3]
He said permission was given for the installation of NTR statue only after Ms Purandeswari took up the cause. [/size][/font][/color]
