The national attention over her death is shedding light on how unsafe Indian women actually are. According to the national crime records bureau, there were more than [url="http://ncrb.nic.in/CD-CII2011/cii-2011/Snapshots-5311.pdf"]24,000 registered rapes in 2011[/url]. That's one rape every 22 minutes in India. And those are just the ones we know about. The reality is this: [b]This is one more example of [url="http://www.transparency.org/cpi2012/results"]a government[/url] that simply does not deliver. India has a broken public safety system, little to no public surveillance and CCTV systems, [url="http://www.transparency.org/news/pressrelease/20120116_south_asia"]and a corrupt police force[/url].[/b][/size][/font][/color][color=#000000][font=arial, helvetica, sans-serif][size=3]
According to the [url="http://www.unodc.org/"]U.N.'s Office on Drugs and Crime[/url], South Asia has one of the[url="http://www.unodc.org/documents/data-and-analysis/Crime-statistics/International_Statistics_on_Crime_and_Justice.pdf"]lowest ratios of police officers to civilians[/url] in the world. It also has among the fewest prosecutors as a percentage of the population.[/size][/font][/color]
