[color="Blue"][font=Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, Calibri, Geneva, sans-serif][size=3][background=rgb(250, 250, 250)][size="4"]4 criminals are caught and are to be punished. The Judge allows them to be freed if they can solve a puzzle. If they do not, they will be hung. They agreed.

The 4 criminals are lined up on some steps (shown in picture). They are all facing in the same direction. A wall separates the fourth man from the other three.

So to summarize:-
Man 1 can see men 2 and 3.
Man 2 can see man 3.
Man 3 can see none of the others.
Man 4 can see none of the others.

The criminals are wearing hats. They are told that there are two white hats and two black hats. The men initially don’t know what colour hat they are wearing. They are told to shout out the color of the hat that they are wearing as soon as they know for certain what colour it is.

They are not allowed to turn round or move.
They are not allowed to talk to each other.
They are not allowed to take their hats off.

Who is the first person to shout out and why?[/size][/background][/size][/font][/color]

the 2nd wud expect the 1st to shout if he(1st) found that the ppl in front of them were both wearing black which he(1st) didnt...which only means that he is wearing something other than what the guy infront of him i.e., the 3rd is wearing !!

2 will answer first.....if 1 did not answer quickly.... it means 2 and 3 are wearing two different colors..... he can see 3 hat color......remaining color is his hat color....

If 1 sees that 2 and 3 have hats of the same color, then he knows his hat is the opposite color and will tell it immediately. So, in this scenario, [b]1 will be the first one to talk[/b].

But if 1 does not speak for some amount of time, then 2 and 3 will know that 1 is seeing hats of different colors. Since 2 know the color of 3's hat, he knows his hat is the other color since 1 did not speak because he is seeing hats of different colors on 2 and 3. [b]And so, 2 will be the first one to talk[/b].

Might be Second Man after waiting for sometime will shout first and say right answer.

Reason:

Had 2 and 3 have got same color, 1 would have easily figured out his own color and shouted. But He's not doing so, means 2 and 3 have got different colors. Now I can see what 3 has got. So my hat-color is diff than what 3 has got.
