Girl Students In Guntur Given Training In Martial Arts

Addressing the girls, the officers said, those who learn ‘martial arts’ would have the courage and confidence required to repel attacks on them.
A large number of girls of Kanna School learnt how to protect themselves from attacks by eve-teasers during a six-day self-defence training programme being organised on Monday by the Police Department, which roped in martial artist D. Pothuraju and Nagavani, who won bronze medal in boxing in the All India Police Games held recently.
Addressing the girls, Superintendents of Police A. Ravi Krishna (urban) and J. Satyanarayana (rural) said those who learn ‘martial arts’ would have the courage and confidence required to repel attacks on them.
While keeping the rowdy elements under check, the Police Department expects girls to be brave enough to confront the stalkers lest they should be emboldened to tease and even physically intimidate the so-called fair sex.
Later, urban SP Ravi Krishna exhorted the students of Government Women’s College to throw chilli powder into the eyes of eve-teasers who sometimes tend to abuse them physically too. He distributed chilli powder packets to the students for the stated purpose.
