Bollywood and extra-marital affairs go hand in hand. Married actors and actresses work with their staples and you never know when close becomes too close.
In the past many famous actors and actresses have indulged in relationships outside home ground but they managed to keep it under wraps. And even when it did come out, it wasn't splashed across all media platforms like it is today.
But whether it was an actress or an actor being unfaithful, where did it leave the poor spouses? And if these better halves do have a clue, why do they continue being part of those relationships? Is it all media-created or is the fame too important to let go?
Bollywood affairs aren't new to this era. Back in the 50s, a leading actor/director/producer fell in love with one of the biggest female stars of the time. They did 17 films together, until the time she asked him to marry her. The actress moved on to greener pastures but their love affair is what makes up legends.
A leading female superstar of the 80s and 90s actually got pregnant after her tryst with a producer. Undoubtedly, the man had to leave his wife with whom he already had kids and married the actress.
Back in the 70s, an actor and actress who were one of the mot sought after on-screen couples decided to go against all odds and get married. The actor was already married, so they converted to Islam to have a legal second marriage with the actress. Ironically, another affair surfaced in the 70s which was between a superstar and one of his oft-repeated co-stars. This affair is still under speculation but it gained notorious publicity during the 80s due to a film based on infidelity which the couple starred in, in the 80s.
While it was rare at the time, Bollywood affairs seem like the in thing today, and seem to be the story of every second household. Whether it's between a leading director/producer and a one-time Queen of Bollywood, a reigning married superstar and a multiple-award winning top actress, the same actress and a leading action star, a star son and a Spanish beauty, an international icon and a Southern superstar, and the latest is there are cracks in the relationship of a quintessential star couple where the husband has been noted to be philandering.
With the way our stars remain unfaithful, it' a wonder their spouses still put up with it. While divorce rates are high otherwise all over the country, why do these couples remain together? Is it because of companionship? Or fame and comfort?
