If one loses job on H1, he/she is technically out of status after a job loss. Until the person is on previous employer's payroll, its fine. There is no grace period as such after job loss. But uscis tends to forgive status violations for short periods...say 10 to 15 days.

Getting out of the country and coming back with a job is highly impossible in my openion. People here themselves find it difficult to get jobs. Forget going out of country and finding one.

No consulting company transfers h1 without a job in hand. Its too risky for them as uscis wud issue rfe for client letters. Companies "can" transfer a h1 without a job(meaning not providing client letter at the time of transfer). Those companies are shady. Better watch out....

Your other option is to move to canada, find a job there, become canadian citizen and then apply gor green card. I heard its a lot easier that way.....thats all I know.....
