Metro corridor bottlenecks to be removed

Senior officials of Hyderabad Metro Rail, GHMC, R&B, HMWS&SB, APCPDCL, AP Transco, L&T and traffic police of Hyderabad and Cyberabad, led by HMR managing director NVS Reddy, inspected the work on the 13-km-long Punjagutta-Miyapur stretch of Metro Rail Corridor-1 in the city on Thursday.

Reddy instructed the officers and engineers concerned to fill up potholes, improve the road surface, rectify water stagnation points, shift electrical poles and other obstructing utilities from the widened carriageway at a number of places where traffic bottlenecks were identified.

Some of the important decisions taken are shifting of electrical poles and transformers from carriageway in front of Big Bazar, Sitara Hotel, RS Brothers and Chowdhary Mansion in Ameerpet; widening and improvement of carriageway in front of Big Bazar, Chermas, Maitrivanam Complex, ESI Hospital and Erragadda.

The road behind Big Bazar will be widened by acquiring two properties to make it a bypass road to overcome traffic congestion on the narrow road wedged by burial grounds near Srinagar Colony junction. Acquisition of properties will be expedited to increase the Sanatanagar flyover-Moosapet carriageway to 200 feet.

Royal Hatcheries, Chowdhary Mansion and other properties at Ameerpet will be acquired to widen the road to 150 feet.

CPDCL, Transco and L&T were asked to expedite shifting of HT overhead electrical lines at JNTU, Miyapur and IDL Dargah to facilitate L&T to take up pier (pillar) works at these locations.

L&T was asked to speed up station pier works and install more launching girders to build viaduct in stage-2 works between SR Nagar and Miyapur.

Metro’s stage-1 works near completion, 1st coach by Oct.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail works in stage-I between Nagole and Mettuguda is nearing completion. The laying of pillars and construction of the viaduct is over. Barricades, which were set up in the middle of the road to facilitate Metro Rail works, have been removed with completion of works, enabling smooth flow of traffic along this stretch.

Works pertaining to construction of elevated stations are going on at a brisk pace. The first metro coach will arrive in the city by October, and a trial run will be conducted within a year.

“We are removing barricades from the roads as and when works are completed. This is to facilitate smooth flow of traffic along the construction sites of Metro Rail corridors,” said N.V.S. Reddy, managing director, HMR.

He said that 60 per cent of alignment-related works like piers and viaduct, and about 70 per cent of station works at 63 locations is being done off-site, using the latest precast segmental construction techniques and pre-cast building methods, with an aim to minimise traffic problems for road-users.

“Only 40 per cent of alignment works and 30 per cent of station works are being taken up onsite. Barricades are set up to complete these works and are being removed as and when the works are over,” Mr Reddy added.
