With the increase in land value from April 1, the charges of registration wills be 7.5 per cent of the new government land value.

Stamps and Registration offices across the twin cities were flooded with last-minute rush of applications for registration of houses, plots and property transfers as the registration fee is said to be increasing from April onwards.

The offices are expected to function till late to cater to the rush over the next few days. According to the Registration department officials, the government will be increasing the market values of the land from April 1 onwards, following which the charges of registration will be 7.5 per cent of the new government land value.

Fearing abnormal increase in registration costs, people are in a hurry to complete the paperwork before April 1. A resident of Shanthi Nagar, [size=8][b]Masab Tank Madhusudhana Rao[/b][/size] said, “I am forced to complete the registration of this site because I fear an increase in registration cost.” Another applicant, Naveen Reddy, resident of Himayat Nagar, said, “We never know how much the government might increase the land value, and if the increase if high then we have to a pay hefty price —so why take a chance.”

According to registration officials of Malkajgiri sub-registrar’s office, the registrations increased from 30 to more than 100 per day due to the rush. A document writer at Musapet head office said that the burden would be more this time on people as the government was going to increase the land value.
