oka manchi book chadavaka poyina.. its very important to talk to different sort of people. Its equal to reading books.

book reading is easier and more accessible than going out and to find different people to interact with.

first of all, are people around you really 'suffering' or did you get that from watching tv9 news? And what kind of suffering are you talking of? if someone is hurt, you help him and do your bit. It has nothing to do with reading or not reading books.

reading books/ talking to different people gives you a sense of perspective on problems facing your society.

reading a lot of books has one great advantage in that it helps you find the right words to express yourself. It's helpful when you have to persuasive, like in public service.

And a huge disadvantage is that it disconnects you from your immediate world.

but it doesn't mean we can't criticise people who watch movies mindlessly.

and point out there are much healthier ways to let go off your adrenaline.

All these clubs aren't exclusive for developed countries, unless you think Indians shouldn't have any healthy fun before all poor in this country have daily meals.

FYI, I am of the view that the hunger levels in India are needlessly exaggerated. In chennai itself there are countless homes that provide food and shelter for the elderly poor. My cousin worked for one such org, and told me that they have to beg those people on the streets to come to their home, and they run away after a few days.
