The BJP is bringing its high-profile leader and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi to AP with the twin aim of drumming up support for his prime ministerial ambitions and to gain maximum LS seats in Telangana.

The BJP, nursing a grand vision of running the next government, is bringing the party’s poster boy, Narendra Modi, to Andhra Pradesh soon. The party has ambitious tasks to achieve in Telangana.

Narendra Modi, who was inducted into the party’s highest decision-making body recently, is expected to work his magic on Telangana people with a promise of creating a separate state once NDA comes to power. Besides, this would be another occasion for the party to project him as ideal prime ministerial material, party sources pointed out.

“We asked him to visit our State and address public meetings. He readily agreed to it. We are planning to hold his public meetings across the State, especially in Telangana region,” a senior BJP leader told Postnoon.
Telangana to be spin mantra

The fact that BJP is strongly fighting for the creation of separate Telangana state for the last many years and the party’s erstwhile glory (BJP had seven MPs from Telangana in the late nineties) are the two important reasons for Modi’s focus on Telangana region.

The party now projecting a development-oriented, not communal-minded, approach, is hard put to convince Telugus that the Gujarat model could work very well for AP. The party also wants to tell the State that during its reign, it had given maximum projects to AP, though it will not harp on its tie-up with the TDP in those days.

“Telangana region is the only hope of our party, where the BJP can win substantial number of seats as we did in the past. So Modi’s tour’s focus would be primarily on Telangana region only. We will organise his meeting in all the 10 districts of Telangana,”another senior BJP leader said. Modi’s State visit is likely to be held after the conclusion of party stalwart M Venkaiah Naidu’s ongoing State- wide public awareness campaign meetings. It may be emphasised here that Naidu’s public meetings, being organised in all 42 Lok Sabha seat constituencies of AP, are primarily aimed at drumming up support for Narendra Modi, before declaring him as the official prime ministerial candidate of NDA, of which BJP is a coalition partner.

Commenting on Modi’s State visit, BJP State unit spokesperson NVVS Prabhakar said that the schedule of Modi’s visit is yet to be finalised and added that clarity would emerge in the coming days.
