People Of Boston Area Stay Home Don't Go Out .

All MBTA service suspended; Residents ordered to stay home

In the wake of an overnight shootout that left one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects dead, residents in several communities are being told to "shelter in place" and MBTA service has been halted Friday morning.

A second bombing suspect, identified by the AP as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, is also believed to be involved with the overnight shootout that left an MIT police officer dead. He remains at large.

A door-by-door search for the man is under way in several neighborhoods.

Anyone who works or lives in Watertown, Newton, Waltham, Belmont, Cambridge or Allston-Brighton is being asked to stay home. No cars are being allowed in or out of Watertown.

The MBTA has also suspended all MBTA systems and services. All customers at MBTA stations are asked to go home.

MBTA did not say when service would resume.

Amtrak Northeast said because of police activity, Amtrak service is temporarily suspended between Boston and Providence, R.I.

Trial Court courthouses/offices in Cambridge, Brighton, Newton and Waltham are closed until further notice. All-first day jurors summonsed for Friday at the Suffolk Superior Court and Brooke Courthouses in Boston are canceled.

Classes at all Boston schools, MIT, UMass Boston, Harvard University, Emerson College, Boston University and Boston College have been canceled Friday.
