ఈ దరఖాస్తుల సంఖ్య ఇటీవలి కాలంలో మరీ పెరిగిపోయింది. అమెరికాలోని రిపబ్లికన్ ప్రజాప్రతినిధులు దీనిపై గుర్రుగా ఉన్నారు. వీళ్లు రావడం వల్ల అమెరికన్ ఆర్థికవ్యవస్థకు ఉపయోగం ఏమీ లేదని వారంటున్నారు. కొత్తగా తలపెట్టిన సంస్కరణలలో భాగంగా, అసలు గ్రీన్‌కార్డులను ఎత్తేయాలని వాళ్లు ప్రతిపాదించారు. దీనిపై కాంగ్రెస్‌లో చర్చ నడుస్తోంది. ఈ వేసవి ముగిసేలోగా దీనిపై తుది ఓటింగ్ జరిగే అవకాశం లేదు. కానీ ఒకవేళ ఈ సంస్కరణలు ఆమోదం పొందితే, వచ్చే ఏడాదినుంచి గ్రీన్‌కార్డులు ఉండవు!! ఇప్పటికే దరఖాస్తు చేసుకున్నవారికి ఇదే ఆఖరు అవకాశం అన్న విషయం కూడా ఇప్పటివరకు తెలియదు.

2014 డ్రాకు అర్హత పొందాలంటే, 2012 అక్టోబర్‌లో దరఖాస్తు చేసుకోవాలి. అలా చేసుకున్న అభ్యర్థులు బుధవారం రాత్రి 9.30 నుంచి ఫలితాలు www.dvlottery.state.gov అనే వెబ్‌సైట్‌లో చూసుకుంటున్నారు. తొలి రౌండులో దాదాపు లక్ష పేర్లను ఎంపిక చేసినా, అందరూ వీసా ప్రక్రియను పూర్తి చేయలేరు కాబట్టి... గరిష్ఠంగా 50వేల గ్రీన్‌కార్డులను జారీచేస్తారు. 2013 లాటరీలో 79 లక్షల మంది వ్యక్తులు తమ భార్యలు, పిల్లలతో కలిపి మరో 46 లక్షల దరఖాస్తులు సమర్పించారు. 2012 లాటరీలో 18వేల మంది ఆఫ్రికన్లు గ్రీన్‌కార్డులు పొందారు. మరే ఖండం నుంచి ఇంతమంది లేరు. ఎప్పుడూ సగం లాటరీని ఆఫ్రికన్లకు రిజర్వు చేస్తారు. గడిచిన ఐదేళ్లలో 50 వేల మందికి పైగా వ్యక్తులను అమెరికాకు పంపిన దేశాలను లాటరీ నుంచి మినహాయించారు. 2014 విజేతలకు అక్టోబర్ నుంచి ఇంటర్వ్యూలు నిర్వహిస్తారు. అప్పుడే వాళ్లు హైస్కూలు డిప్లొమా చదివిన ఆధారం లేదా కనీసం రెండేళ్ల పాటు పనిచేసినట్లు అనుభవం చూపించాలి.[/size]
