HYDERABAD, JUNE 4. The city police registered cases under sections 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and 25 and 27 of the Indian Arms Act against film actor Balakrishna in connection with the shooting incident in his Jubilee Hills house last night even as the condition of the injured persons— B. Suresh, film producer, and Satyanarayana Choudhary, astrologer — continued to be critical.
Though prima facie evidence pointed the needle of suspicion towards Balakrishna, investigation was hampered in the absence of a statement from the injured persons and the man in question. All the three were not in a position to narrate the sequence of events that shook the tinsel world.
While Care Hospital doctors declared that Balakrishna, undergoing treatment for a cut injury on his hand, would take at least a day to speak, the Apollo Hospital authorities announced that the two injured persons need to be monitored closely for the next 48 hours.
The Jubilee Hills police seized two licensed Webley Scott revolvers of .32 calibre, one belonging to Balakrishna and the other belonging to his wife, Vasundhara, from the house. "Balakrishna fired six shots from the revolver belonging to his wife. The other weapon was not loaded," the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, R.P. Singh, said. A bullet got embedded in the wall, while Suresh and Satyanarayana sustained one bullet injury each. Ricochet marks of bullets were found on the walls.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Balakrishna did not have a firearm `retainer' licence that would enable him to use his wife's revolver. This violation would attract penal action against him. Fingerprints were lifted from the used revolver and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory to check whether they tallied with that of the actor. The only account of the shooting incident was given to the police by Balakrishna's relative, Prasad, who claimed to be present in the house at the time. He told the police that he was strolling in the lawns when he heard the shouts. When he entered the room Balakrishna was seen bleeding from his right forefinger reportedly after a flower-vase was hurled at him while Suresh and Choudhary were bleeding from the bullet injuries. The police team that visited the scene thrice found that attempts had been made to wipe out the bloodstains in the room. A broom-stick and a bucket of blood-stained water were recovered.

HYDERABAD: A security guard posted at film actor N Balakrishna's residence in Jubilee Hills was murdered early Wednesday morning.
Loknath Sahil, 30, a private security guard from Orissa employed by Investigation Security Services and detailed to Balakrishna's house, was found dead on the lawn of the actor's residence on Road No 1, Jubilee Hills, with his head smashed with a marble stone.

Balakrishna's wife Vasundhara told police that she woke up and saw an intruder fleeing her bedroom. She raised alarm and her husband who was sleeping in another room rushed down and found the watchman lying in a pool of blood.
The family then telephoned a close relative, Prasad, who informed the Police Control Room at 3.36 am.
Police commissioner R P Singh, after visiting the scene of the crime, told reporters that prima facie Sahil seemed to have been murdered for gain.
He said the robbers, who were possibly more than two in number, may have entered the house from the rear side of the building, where the servants' quarters are located.
The commissioner said dogs in the neighbourhood had been barking between 2 am and 3 am. Sahil might have heard something and gone to the backyard to check.
He may have run into the robbers. On the basis of clues such as the tramping of the lawn grass, blood stains and the abrasions on the guard's body, police are surmising that Sahil grappled with the robbers before he was killed.
Vasundhara told detectives that the robbers could have entered Balakrishna's room first before coming to her's, for Rs 50,000 cash kept in a wooden draw in his room was missing. But no other valuables were touched, including a bracelet.
The actor's two children were sleeping in their mother's room when the incident took place.
Balakrishna was in the news a couple of months ago when he allegedly shot two of his associates in the house.
Incidentally, Banjara Hills assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Chandra Mouli went to the actor's house on a routine check in the early hours of Wednesday and spoke to the watchman around 12.30 am.
Beat constables from the Jubilee Hills police station also met the guard at 1.20 am and took his signature in their beat log sheet.
Vasundhara told the police she heard the barking of the neighbourhood dogs around 2 am, but thought nothing of it as their own dog was quiet.

Based on Vasundhara's version, commissioner Singh said the robbers could have entered the house between 2.30 and 3 am. The main door of the house was probably opened with a duplicate key, the commissioner speculated.
According to the commissioner, apart from the actor, his wife and their two children, servant Anjaneyulu and his niece Tirupatamma were in the house on Wednesday night.

Hyderabad: In a dramatic shooting, Telugu film star, Nandamuri Balakrishna, allegedly fired from a revolver at producer Bellamkonda Suresh and his associate Satyanarayana Choudhary at his residence on 3rd June. Both the victims were admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills.
The incident created a sensation at night, with Balakrishna's supporters converging at the Care hospital where he was admitted. They picked up arguments with members of the media in the hospital.
Balakrishna might have been a little ambitious jumping 50 feet down recently for the film 'Nartansala'. Balakrishna fractured his ankle while jumping. He has been advised bed rest for three months and strictly warned against dancing and fighting for another six months.

Biography
Nandamuri Balakrishna, the heir to Legendary actor NTR, needs no introduction to the Telugu audience. Balakrishna, dearly called by his fans as Balayya, stayed away from publicity and never really cared for the media. Though he entered the field because of his father, it's his hardwork and dedication that got him a top slot in the industry.
Balakrishna entered film industry at a very young of 14. Tatammakala starring NTR and Bhanumathi is his first film. He acted in many films with his father, legendary actor NTR. He acted as NTR's brother in Annadammula Anubandham and Rowdy Ramudu Konte Krishnudu. He also played son to his real life brother Hari Krishna in the movie Dana Veera Soora karna, directed and produced by NTR.
It was in 1984, he did his first movie as solo hero. Mangamma gari manavadu, Kathanayakudu to start with. From there on he went to become the hero of the masses. Sitarama Kalyanam, Desodharakudu, Apoorva Sahodarulu, Ramudu Bhimudu, Rakthabhishekam, Muddula Mavayya and many more steered his career successfully into the 90's.

Undeniably, Balakrishna is the best suitable hero to do films with village backdrop. Village costumes, in full white, fits no one as good as it does for Balayya. Following NTR, it's only Balakrishna who could do justice to the mythological films. Bhairawa Dweepam and Sri Krishnarjuna yudham - both directed by Singitham Srinivasarao fall in the same category. Only science fiction film in Telugu - Aditya 369 - is done by none other than Balayya.

Balakrishna has acted in 80 films till date.Out of the 80 films he did, 31 films have run for more than 100 days. That is almost 40% of his films were superhits and 6 films have completed golden jubilee runs and 4 out of them were produced by Bhargav Arts producer S.Gopal Reddy.

Balakrishna has set a new state record with SAMARASIMHA REDDY by completing 50 days in 92 theatres. He created all India record with the same film by completing 175 days in 30 theatres.

Balakrishna has broke his own records and set a new all India record in 80 years of southindian film history with NARASIMHANAIDU running for 50 days in 124 theatres and 100 days in 105 theatres.

Balakrishna has a bachelor degree in Arts from Nizam College,Hyderabad. Balakrishna married Vasundhara Devi in 1982. He has three kids - Brahmini, Tejaswini & Mokshgna Tarakaratna Teja.

So did Bharat Shah, remember the diamond merchant-cum-film financier. His lawyer got him checked into a hospital for some unidentified ailment (after he was charged) and had him stay there for a year so he could eat home-cooked rotis with tasty and healthful Gujarati subjis and dals while the case went on in the courts for a year. Balakrishna too checked into a hospital for treatment of some temporary mental illness. And then the guys he shot at (a film producer and an astrologer:-) swore they didn't remember that it was exactly him shooting at them; they just heard some shots and saw some blood, that's all.

enerally don't realise is that the Courts of Law recognise only one thing. Hard Evidence. Truth is always on the backburner. If one has an unscrupulous lawyer, like Ram Jethmalani, or the Congress MP Anand, who is another attorney, who specialises in the criminalization of the judiciary, and manufactures water tight alibis and evidences to the contrary of what has happened, then the administration of justice is vitiated. What we follow is the British Jurisprudence, an antiquated, obsolete and anti-diluvian set of rules and regulations which operate on the principle of a thousand criminals can be set free but not one innocent should be punished. In our country, our Politicians have fine tuned this system to such an extent, that those who have money buy their freedom, and those who cannot suffer. The puisne judges are absolutely helpless in this matter. Even if they know that they are letting free a hard core criminal, it is based on the evidence and if it cannot be broken by the prosecuton Lawyers who are in the majority, dregs in this profession, the case is always not in favour of the poor. I will not be surprised, if the present litigants before the High Court of Mumbai go scott free, after a clever defence lawyer can prove in the Supreme Court of India that Munna Bhai was attending the medical school, at the time the Bombay Blast took place in 1993

And it also boils down to the individual integrity of the officers on the case -- the police/CBI officers, judges, etc.

HYDERABAD, FEB. 4. Film star N. Balakrishna, his wife Vasundhara and their driver Kanakaiah have been acquitted in the sensational case of shooting incident in their Jubilee Hills house, here, on the night of June 3, 2004.
Delivering the verdict today, the Metropolitan Sessions Judge, K. Raja Gopala Reddy, said that the prosecution had failed to prove any of the charges against the accused persons. The scientific evidence presented in the court was not reliable, he said. The judge also dismissed a petition seeking stoppage of proceedings.
The film star, clad in white dress sporting a tilak on his forehead, was present in the court when the judgment was announced. As news broke out, his fans, waiting outside, raised slogans and distributed sweets. Accompanied by the cheering fans, friends and relatives, the actor walked into a temple nearby and offered prayers.
Thanks fans

"I thank all my fans and friends who have stood by me in these difficult times. I have come clean because of the good work done by parents," Mr. Balakrishna said, reacting to queries from reporters.
A criminal case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and 25 and 27 of the Indian Arms Act was registered against Mr. Balakrishna accusing him of opening fire at film producer, B. Suresh, and an astrologer, Satyanarayana Choudhary. In the course of investigation, a case was also booked against Ms. Vasundhara and Kanakaiah under Section 201 (obliterating evidence) of the IPC. The case took a turn when the Mr. Suresh and Mr. Choudhary, while undergoing treatment at Apollo hospital, maintained that Mr. Balakrishna did not shoot at them even as the police claimed that the duo had deposed in their "dying declarations" that the actor fired at them. The police produced them as two main prosecution witnesses in the cases.
Witnesses turn hostile

However, both Mr. Suresh and Mr. Choudhary during trial told the court that they were "not shot at by Balakrishna, but an unidentified fan standing beside the actor had opened fire." Almost all the witnesses and the `panchas', except the actor's gunman and forensic experts, turned hostile in the court. Prosecution argued that the gun shot residue found on the cotton swabs collected from the actor's palms was an important scientific evidence proving that he had opened fire. However, defence counsel raised suspicion about the veracity of the swabs, pointing out that neither panchanama was conducted nor was a memo issued while collecting the swabs. The Public prosecutor, A. Ravinder Reddy, and defence counsel, V. Surender Rao, argued the case.

Telugu film actor Balakrishna attempted suicide after firing at two producers but survived since there was no bullet left in the revolver, the police said here Tuesday.
He is currently in judicial custody.
Police Commissioner R.P. Singh quoted one of the witnesses as saying the actor aimed the gun at his temple and pulled the trigger. But by that time, the revolver was empty as all the six bullets had been emptied.
"When I heard gunfire I rushed to the hall and saw Balakrishna aiming the revolver at his temple," Singh quoted Siva Reddy, one of the servants at the actor's house, as saying.
Balakrishna, son of former chief minister and film star N.T. Rama Rao, had shot at producer Bellakonda Suresh and his assistant Satyanarayana Chowdary at his residence Thursday night.
In true film style, the actor allegedly tried to wipe out the evidence and then admitted himself to a private hospital to escape arrest.
The actor was arrested from Care Hospital early Sunday with minor injuries on his finger and leg. He told police that he had opened fire in self-defence after being attacked by the producers with a knife.
The injured producers were admitted to the Apollo Hospital.
Both the hospitals are facing charges of not informing the police before admitting the accused and the victims.
Siva Reddy, Balakrishna's brother-in-law Ramakrishna, and two others were also arrested Monday. They were present at the house at the time of the incident but disappeared later.
Investigations have reportedly shown that the attack on Suresh was planned while Chowdary was shot when he tried to save the other producer.
Balakrishna's driver had bought for him 44 bullets from an arms shop in the city on May 3. The same night, the actor called Suresh to his house, where Chowdary and Ramakrishna were already present.
The commissioner quoted Chowdary as saying that within five minutes of Suresh's reaching the place, Balakrishna opened fire with his wife's revolver.
The actor, who was suffering from acute depression, entered into an argument with the producer of his recent film "Lakshminarsimha" on sharing of profits and other matters.
"While pouring a drink he pulled out a revolver from the side rack and started firing. I tried to prevent him but I too was injured," said Chowdary.
Suresh told police that after the firing, Balakrishna threatened him with dire consequences if he tried to reach a hospital. Both the injured disputed the actor's claim that he shot in self-defence.
Ramakrishna then called the actor's brothers Jayakrishna and Mohankrishna, who shifted the injured to the Apollo Hospital. Balakrishna's wife Vasundhara then got the servants to clean the bloodstains.
Physicians were called in from the Care Hospital and Balakrishna was shifted to the hospital.
The actor is charged with attempt to murder and doing away with evidence and also booked under two cases of the Arms Act. A magistrate Monday remanded him in judicial custody till June 21 and ordered that he be shifted from a private hospital to the government-run Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
A team of government doctors who examined the actor will submit their report to the court late Tuesday. A decision would then be taken whether to send him to jail or allow him to be in hospital for treatment.
NIMS director Kakrla Subba Rao said the actor was being administered anti-depressants, suggesting that he might require a psychological examination. Rao, however, said the blood clots in the actor's body had dissolved, which physicians at the Apollo Hospital held could pose serious threat.
The police commissioner said even if the injured reach a compromise with the accused, the police would pursue the case. The weapon has been seized from the house, a case has been booked against Balakrishna's wife under the Arms Act and a show cause notice will be issued asking why the license should not be cancelled.
The actor's bail petition will come up for hearing Wednesday.
