cherlapallifailure Posted May 9, 2013 Author Report Posted May 9, 2013 “Results prove that the nation celebrates diversity, not Modi style of divisive politics.” – Shaktisinh Gohil, former Leader of Opposition, Gujarat Assembly “Wherever Narendra Modi campaigned, BJP lost.” – Arjun Modhwadia, GPCC President “Modi magic failed completely. The youth appreciated Rahul Gandhi taking to the stage at various poll rallies.” — Karnataka Congress leader Siddaramaiah “BJP should learn that the magic of Narendra Modi is a failure outside Gujarat.” – Former Union Minster Subodh Kant Sahay “Comparison of Rahul with Modi was senseless, meaningless and illogical earlier, so it is today, and will remain so in future.” – AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi “All that is said about Mr. Narendra Modi – that he has a pan-India image – is absolutely false and may be that is because of his own communal agenda, which he has taken in Gujarat. I don’t think his influence will go beyond the frontiers of Gujarat. This is very clear and Karnataka has sent the right message to the BJP and also to the people of this country — that a type of leadership like Modi’s will not run this country.” – Union Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily “No one knows Modi outside Gujarat.” – Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh “It has been proved that Modi is a big zero.” – Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal No. Do not get confused upon reading these statements by these illustrious Congress leaders. Narendra Modi has not lost the Prime Ministerial race nor has he been defeated in Gujarat. In fact, these statements are explanations the Congress has been giving on why they won Karnataka! Yes, rather than crediting their State unit for what has been an easy win, the Congress is doing what they do best – eating, drinking and talking Modi! One must give it to them. Even in Karnataka, the Congress has been able to drag Modi into the picture.

cherlapallifailure Posted May 9, 2013 Author Report Posted May 9, 2013 History, it is said, first repeats itself as tragedy and then as farce. Back in 2007, Sonia Gandhi scripted a new low in the political discourse of India by calling Modi a ‘merchant of death.’ Her defence of the indefensible never struck a chord with the voters of Gujarat. The result: Modi won a landslide victory in 2007. Cut to 2012. It has been five years since Sonia’s jibe but the Congress has not learnt anything. From monkey to mouse to even Yamraj, different adjectives have been flung at Modi by Congress leaders. Here, I am not even mentioning what 5-star activists, NGOs and others have done to Modi. Yet, history has shown that whenever Narendra Modi is wrongly targeted by a systematic group of vested interests, he has bounced back even stronger. Push Modi against any wall, to the point of no return and he will push back with determination and vanquish those who indulge in petty mudslinging. I foresee the same happening vis-à-vis the Congress’s Modi fixation in Karnataka. To tell you the truth, I have not seen anything more illogical than the Congress leadership’s take on Modi and Karnataka in a long time. The only thing that perhaps matches it in terms of irrationality is P Chidambaram’s statement that the Congress won in Gujarat because it curtailed Modi by two seats. I would like to know which Congress leader really believes Modi lost Karnataka for the BJP or, for that matter, that the Modi magic has waned (the answer to this lies in the fact that they keep mentioning him, so evidently it has not!). Is addressing three public meetings enough to undo a battle of perception that the Karnataka BJP has been battling for five years? In any case, empirical data now shows that Modi’s success rate in the Karnataka campaign is much more than that of Rahul Gandhi. That should be some food for thought for the Congress.
cherlapallifailure Posted May 9, 2013 Author Report Posted May 9, 2013 In fact, what I really admired about Modi’s campaign is that he had the courage to declare on stage that yes, there had been mistakes and that the party has worked tirelessly to correct them. Flanked by Jagdish Shettar, Sadananda Gowda, R Ashok, Prahlad Joshi, he said this on three different occasions. I have never seen any leader do so in this manner. Alas, rather than admiring Modi’s humility, Congress sees non-existent fault lines. It would be interesting to see a brief sketch of some of the leaders who are berating Modi in the wake of Karnataka. Veerappa Moily, who says Modi lacks a pan-India image is the same individual who brought the Congress tally down from 178 seats in 1989 to 34 in Karnataka. Digvijaya Singh achieved a similar feat in Madhya Pradesh a decade later. As for Arjun Modhwadia and Shaktisinh Gohil, the less the said the better… The groans of frustration and fear in the Congress camp are only growing louder by the day. Wherever Modi goes, whatever Modi does, haunts the Congress. If he addresses India Today Summit, they tweet mindlessly against it. If he is in Kolkata, their fear becomes palpable. If he goes to Kerala or meets a Minister there, the party panics! There is nothing that Modi does these days that does not send the Congress panicking. These rants about Modi and Karnataka are direct products of these insecurities. Besides, if Narendra Modi ‘failed’ in Karnataka, have Sonia and Rahul Gandhi failed in UP, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Gujarat, Goa, and West Bengal? Are their standards of accountability different for their own leaders and different for others? Two words of wisdom for the Congress leaders — the mainstream media is trying very hard to provoke you into saying illogical things about Modi. They are showing their own elitist disdain for him but firing over your shoulders. As I wrote, whenever Modi has faced so much illogical criticism, he has bounced back. Thus, in the interests of their party, and more importantly their crown prince, they should desist from making absurd statements. Else, the fate that awaits the Congress is similar to the one the BJP Government in Karnataka suffered. When that happens, will they blame Modi again?
