[b] Senior techie falls to death from 17th floor in Bengaluru[/b]


A senior software engineer working with Microsoft here died when he accidentally slipped and fell off the 17th floor flat here.
According to the police, Satya Ramachandran, 31, and his family had arrived from Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu at 6 am and found the front door of his 17[sup]th[/sup] floor flat in Whitefield jammed. Instead of waking up the neighbours or the security, Satya tried to clamber on to the railing of the balcony and open the door by putting his hand in through an open window.

He had almost reached the latch when he slipped as the railing had morning dew and he was wearing leather shoes. He slipped and managed to hold on to the railing with one hand. Even as his wife Divya watched in horror, Satya slipped as the railing was wet.
Divya and Satya screamed their hearts out, but the techie died on the spot as he hit the ground. Divya just froze and was speechless as she clutched her two children -- four years old and eight months old.


The couple had been in Bengaluru for the past 10 years.

Divya told the police, “We were tired after a night-long journey by a private bus. We reached the 17th floor with our luggage in a lift. My husband tried to open the main door, but found it jammed. Saying he would open the balcony door, he walked on the railing and slipped off.”
Satya was due to fly to Australia in July on work.

According to a relative, Satya had earlier managed to reach the balcony in a similar fashion when the door was latched. This must have given him the courage to repeat the act on Tuesday. But the dew and a sleepless journey may have contributed to the tragedy.
