narap1i Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One moments ago, the successor to the Xbox 360. It announced many features, but it remained quiet about backward compatibility with the Xbox 360. It turns out, that Xbox One will not support Xbox 360 games. This was revealed in the Q&A when The Verge enquired about the topic. Microsoft revealed that it was a technical issue as the Xbox 360 was based on the PowerPC architecture while the Xbox One is based on x86. Of course, Sony is also grappling with similar issues with the PlayStation 4, but is promising some kind of backward compatibility with PlayStation 3 games via cloud-based streaming. While Sony has announced Cloud Streaming for the future via its Gaikai property for the PlayStation 4, Microsoft has done no such thing. Instead, it chose to focus the Xbox One as an all-in-one entertainment hub for TV, games, music and apps.
