Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu is not willing to be in the race for Prime Minister post, even if there is a possibility of a Third Front coming to power at the Centre.

After a long time, Naidu called national media for a chat at his residence on the eve of the party’s Mahanadu. Naturally, the national media was interested in knowing his party’s role in the national politics in the coming days. The TDP president said he was very much hopeful of a resurgent Third

Front, comprising regional parties and the Left, capturing power at the Centre after the 2014 elections. “The situation is similar to that of 1996, as there is every possibility of a non-Congress and non-BJP coalition government at the Centre. We are bringing together all like-minded parties to form the Third Front. It will be either a pre-poll or a post-poll alliance,” Naidu said.

Interestingly, the TDP president ruled himself out of the Prime Ministerial race. “I was never an aspirant in the past nor am I a contender now. There are several experienced leaders,” he said. On whether the new formation would announce its prime ministerial candidate in the event of both the UPA and NDA announcing their choices, he said, “I cannot guarantee you on that. As of now, we are not projecting anyone as PM. We will work it out based on consensus.”
