that's not the reason.. till the late 1970's, we weren't importing anything... later on with the advent of globalization, imports and exports increased. but, by then dollar was the established currency and obviously demand was very heavy for that. infact after the second world war, dollar grew strong.

You may be partially true ..till the early part of the 20 th century internationl trade was not done with US$ ..so there was no demand for US$

dude.. right after the second world war, no country ever had money.. everybody gave their money to US in return for Guns to use in WW II.. later when the pay back time came, US started paying back in dollars, rather than the receiving country's actual currency.. from then dollar started its dominance on the world.
