Puppy Wants Publicity When Nation Mourns!

Union minister K Chiranjeevi’s publicity blitzkrieg to showcase his “achievements” and his department’s greatness has drawn a lot of flak from different sections of people.

At a time when the entire nation is mourning the death of thousands of people in the “Himalayan Tsunami” in Uttarakhand, Chiranjeevi released two full-page advertisements to the English and Telugu newspapers in the last two days, highlighting “Incredible India” theme of the Tourism Department.

The advertisement has his big photograph, besides huge advertorials on the South and North-East tourism projects.

Needless to say, the department might have spent several crores of rupees on releasing the advertisements.

While nobody would find fault with Chiranjeevi in highlighting his department’s achievements, but the timing was utterly wrong.

The UPA government and the Uttarakhand government are making all out efforts to rescue thousands of pilgrims stranded in the Himalayan mountains due to heavy floods.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has appealed to all the Congress leaders to donate their month’s salary towards relief to the flood victims. Donations from across the nation and the world are still pouring in.

At this stage, is it right on the part of Chiranjeevi to spend crores of rupees on his publicity?

He might have forgotten the fact that thousands of Uttarakhand flood victims were tourists from various parts of the country, including from his own home state Andhra Pradesh.

Does he not have the responsibility to do something as a tourism minister, rather than issuing advertisements to get cheap publicity?
