idhi anta matter................FDI

The investment is direct because the investor, which could be a foreign person, company or group of entities, is seeking to control, manage, or have significant influence over the foreign enterprise.

FDI is a major source of external finance which means that countries with limited amounts of capital can receive finance beyond national borders from wealthier countries. Exports and FDI have been the two key ingredients in countries rapid economic growth.

Why Countries Seek FDI ?
(a) Domestic capital is inadequate for purpose of economic growth;
(B) Foreign capital is usually essential, at least as a temporary measure, during the period when the capital market is in the process of development;
(c) Foreign capital usually brings it with other scarce productive factors like technical know how, business expertise and knowledge

What are the major benefits of FDI :
(a) Improves forex position of the country;
(B) Employment generation and increase in production ;
(c) Help in capital formation by bringing fresh capital;
(d) Helps in transfer of new technologies, management skills, intellectual property
(e) Increases competition within the local market and this brings higher efficiencies
(f) Helps in increasing exports;
(g) Increases tax revenues

Yeah..good question and good attempt to understand the core of the problem. But thats doesnt work for:
1. All US and European products are really better than traditional products except colas. People still take colas instead of our traditional lassis because of hygeine factor. They forget the fact that colas are dangerous and serve themselves.
2. Tooth brushes, Tooth pastes and other FMCG goods doesnt have much impact even if we use indigeniuos products. Most of the raw materials are sourced locally so not too much impact on imports or exports.

Actual problems are:
1. Black money transferred out of country like Jagan, Gali, kanimoli, Suresh Kalmadi and hundreds other stash away to foreign lands.
2. Too much of imports - Oil bill constitutes 30% of our imports. Remaining major imports are military equipment (because we have 2 enemies lurking around our head Pakistan and China)
3. We were once Gold exporters - now we are importers accounting to 30% of the import bill.
4. Electronic goods (iPhones and laptops) and posh foreign made cars Audi, Benz, BMW, Ferrari, Skoda etc.
5. Lower demand for goods we export - dals, cereals, cotton, wheat are exported at chaper prices by B'desh and Pakistan.

And many other.

Disadvantages:
If Walmart and Tesco are allowed:
1. They say that they will source (acquire) goods from local vendors (farmers and other hand-crafts). They do it for some years and later they will open benami companies that will import cheaper goods from China and B'desh. Then they will sell through their stores. All Small-and-medium industries would die by then.
2. Cotton - Cotton and Cotton. Already Bangaldesh is cheap exporter of readymade cotten textiles (most of the dresses you wear in US/UK/European countries are made in B'desh. No Govt. in India allows cotton imports even though they are cheaper because more farmers will sucide and textiles industry will be vanished. But Walmart and Tesco will bring clothes and kill the textile industry.
3. They will fix prices of crops even before seeds are sown and lease all farm lands because they have ability to store food for years.
4. Their sophisticated logistics make sure that artificial demand can be created and busted as and when needed.
5. Almost all kirana shop owners wil become salesman/assistants in these stores. They dont create employment as claimed but provides only a percentage of employment that they have already killed.
6. Most of the profits will go away from the country.

I am busy and will come back.......
