I can understand your concern Maddy. Most of the Indian middle class are affected by petrol price hike.
But the link that you have given doesnt reflect true picture.
It says that price for 1 liter in India is $1.2 and in UK it is $2.42. I can prove you that still petrol is cheaper in UK. There is something called PPP (Purchase Power Parity) that takes into account the earnings capacity of a person. As we cant compare different professions and their earnings between US and India, I take 'Unskilled Daily Labour' as basis.

In India, a daily labor can earn a maximum of Rs.500 (in metros) and with it he can buy just over 7 Litres of petrol. A semi-skilled may earn some more and say he can earn Rs.750 equi. to 10 Litres. A software professionals' salary if its Rs.60k net per month (per working day it will be around Rs.3000) can buy 40 Litres of petrol.

In UK, a daily labor earns 50 GBP Per day. Since there is a compulsory Income Tax and if he works for 20 days in a month, his annual salary will be 12000 GBP. ANd net per month will be 914 GBP. So per day it would be over 45 GBP. With the price of petrol 1.33 GBP Per liter, a daily labor can buy over 34 Litres of petrol. Its equivalent to almost a Software ENgineers buying capacity in India. And if a Software engineers' per day net is over 100 GBP (which is true for most of the people) he can buy around 75 Litres.

BUT THERE IS A DOWNSIDE. This is the main reason why so many software and other service based jobs are outsourced from West to East.

Only thing I can say is that its not just the problem of Congress Govt. its beyond repair now. With 1.2 Billion Population and still growing at 1.5% per annum, the energy requirements are growing at exponential phase where as Net Production is linear.

Historic ga india ki petrol price ni influence chesindi rendu factors bhayya, adhi mana public lo chala takkuva mandhi ki telusu/ardham chesukogalaru:

1. APM aka admin price mechanism
2.OPEC premium for developing countries.

APM anedhi votes pokunda mana indiramma creation, International petrol prices tho local price fluctuate avvakunda pettina mechanism.Deenitho petrol + diesel rates ni government money tho subsidise chesevallu prajalaki bharam padakunda.Idhi konalla tharavatha
unsustainable aipodam tho vajpayee govt vallu sagam ethesaru. UPA govt vachi poorthi ga ethesindi. Diesel ni vere scheme tho ippatiki
subsidise chestunnaru. Andhuke india lo petrol costlier than diesel elsewhere it is the reverse.

Second factor OPEC(petrol producing countries org) developing countries like India ki ekkuva charge chestaru compared to developed countries like US.
