He played 71 Tests, 20 ODIs and 6 T20s after making his debut against South Africa in 2000 and with 233 wickets, ended up as New Zealand's third-highest wicket-taker in Tests. He played his last Test against South Africa too, in Cape Town in January 2013. His batting exploits at No. 11 endeared him to cricket fans the world over and his 36 ducks in Test cricket are only second behind Courtney Walsh's 43.[/size] [size=5]"It feels like the right time to step down. I have loved every second and given it everything when playing for the Blackcaps, but after 15 years of professional cricket, it's time to pursue a new challenge," Martin said. "He's shown all the qualities required to perform on the international scene - fight, determination and a huge passion for the game.
