Arjun Tendulkar dropped from MCA U-14 probables


The Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) junior selection committee decided to send a message to Arjun Tendulkar by dropping him from the[b] 30-member U-14 probables.[/b]

Arjun, who bats left handed at the top of the order and bowls medium pace, was dropped from the probables list because of poor performance in the selection trials and other tournaments. He was selected in the team in June 2012.

In the summer vacation U-14 tournament in 2012, Arjun had scored over 250 runs in five games. This year, however, Tendulkar junior did not score a single half-century in the summer vacation matches conducted by MCA.

“The selectors were firm that he has not performed well and there was no reason to include Arjun. He needs to go back and perform again to be picked for Mumbai’s junior side,” said an MCA insider to the Indian Express.

One of the selectors also said that being Sachin Tendulkar’s son did not entitle him to special privileges. He will have to — like the others — perform on the field.

“We felt that this decision to drop him will change him for the better. Hopefully, in the next two years we might see a different Arjun. But for that to happen he needs to work harder” the insider said.

The MCA selectors, who did not want to be named, also cited Arjun’s lack of intensity among the reason for the axe.

“There are so many people involved with Arjun’s coaching but still his fielding is nowhere near today’s standards. He needs to improve a lot in that area. His batting is fine but he needs to convert starts into big scores like the other promising young players,” a selector said.
