[size=4]The remuneration, as announced by Panchayat Raj Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy, would go up from Rs. 600 to Rs. 1,000 a month for sarpanches of minor gram panchayats, Rs. 1,000 to 1,500 for sarpanches of major gram panchayats and mandal parishad presidents (MPPs), Rs. 5,000 to 7,500 for Zilla Parishad chairmen and Rs. 1,500 to 2,250 for Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) members. There is no change in the remuneration to Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) members. [/size]

[size=4]The honorarium to sarpanches would be borne in the ratio of 50:50 by the government and the gram panchayats while it would be 55:45 for the government and ZPs in the case of ZP chiefs. [/size]
[size=4]Mr. Reddy also announced a hike in the sitting fee for Mandal and ZP meetings from Rs. 50 to 100 per head and Rs. 75 to 150 per head respectively. [/size]
[size=4]The sitting fee for ward members of gram panchayats was introduced for the first time now at the rate of Rs. 100 per head. The government would meet the fee for the meetings. The Panchayat Raj Minister made the announcement shortly after Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy left a convention of sarpanches here making a statement that the government would consider a hike in the honorarium of presidents and that it would not be less than 50 per cent of the existing amount. [size=4]Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy also announced waiver of power bills for both minor and major gram panchayats towards reducing their financial burden on account of payment of streetlights and pumping charges for drinking water. [/size]
