i applied for visa h1 extension in Jun 2013 i got it approved for next three years ( my passport will expire in oct2013)
I applied for passport extension last week thry mail, i agree it is slow but they are working
they have updated my visa app status saying that they received it today.
phone numbers/customer service koncham bagole. you can reach them but little hard to reach them
I got a call from bls today for not attaching a document, i got it fixed. they told me it will take uptp three weeks or less to get the new passport

if you are worried about that go ahead and renew it in tatkal
if you are close to any center you can visit them i guess personelly by carrying all the docs

sent thru USPS last wednesday, they received it friday
today they have updated the tracking details on their site
