flash is very hard form light, so you can use difuser on flash so you can make it even soft light, looks natural. and there is an other option to make the background just like the pic was taken in bright conditions , you have an option in flash called fill flash, it will do magic

Best way to learn photography is by experimentation ...Start reading info starting with ISO (Exposure), Aperture, and Shutter Speed. Practice the settings on the camera after you are done with each topic. Once you get familiar with the above 3 aspects, you will start taking better pics. its right but most of the people start reading and leave it after a while, because most of the topics sounds real contradictory...makes you real mad....

you can get around by selecting different exposures for each field (HDR).. not all cameras are quipped to deal with it..
